This Interact visit was like no other. The Interact team's favourite place to go to is definitely Huis Anna Viljoen, the place where we spread love to the wisdom of our community. The people that are placed into these old age homes are either abandoned, not physically well or have no family or friends to look after them in these later years of their lives. Interact tries to make them feel loved on special holidays and over all the visits, these elders have become our friends, and apart of the Ferdie Family.

It’s incredibly beautiful to see the joy lighten up in their eyes as we hand them a cupcake and a warm smile. Our Interact team makes a big difference in the lives of these elders, by listening to stories of their younger days, or sharing some of our own. We have realised that they make an equal impact in our lives as students. When we arrived at the old age home on the the 20th of February, we eagerly rushed to see our favourite elders.
My favourite elder was one of them, and this completely broke me. She has shared some of the best advice about life that I will forever remember. This is when I realised the true purpose of charity, and of Interact. To care. Interact has impacted my life in ways I can’t explain, and taught me the value of charity. It is the greatest joy to be able to make them smile as we give them a cupcake, take them for walks and keep them company. Ferdies is very proud of what Interact does for the old age home.
