On Wednesday, the 7th of May, 2025, the grounds of Ferdinand Postma were buzzing with energy and excitement, waiting for the clock to reach 11:30am. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Sports Committee and the support of Walt Esterhuysen (head of the sports committee) the school hosted its first ever Sports Carnival, an event that brought together students from all grades for a full day of athletic fun, friendly competition, and unforgettable memories.
The day was packed with a variety of sports challenges that tested both skill and spirit. One of the most popular events was the netball shooting competition. Participants had to see how many goals they could score in a limited amount of time. It was fast-paced, with students cheering each other on and giving it their all. Nearby, the cycling obstacle course drew a crowd of enthusiastic spectators. Cyclists raced through twists, turns, and tricky setups, all trying to finish with the fastest time.
Rugby had students attempting to score a goal & strategizing with intense focus, while the archery zone gave students a chance to show off their aim and precision. The squash, players battled it out, shot for shot. With colourful targets in different sizes.
What made the day even more special was the opportunity to win prizes through various games and challenges. Whether it was skill-based events or fun mini-competitions, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The highlight of the day came at the very end- a thrilling seven-minute plank competition being juniors versus seniors, versus one teacher, Mrs Rosin. It had everyone on their feet. It was the perfect conclusion to an already action-packed day. After an intense battle, Rhodes, a senior student, claimed victory, earning applause and admiration from the crowd.
The Sports Carnival at Ferdinand Postma was not just about winning or competing; it was about unity, school spirit, and celebrating the talents of every student. Thank you to everyone who made this day a huge success, leaving everyone looking forward to next year’s event.
