Every day we walk past students who may be struggling in ways we don’t see. Some are our friends, others are just familiar faces in the hallway. We never truly know what someone is going through, but one thing is certain… kindness, no matter how small, always makes a difference.
That's why from the 17th to the 21st of February, the Ferdies Heart Committee dedicated Kindness Week to reminding us that kindness isn’t just a word but it’s something we live out in our everyday actions. The goal wasn’t just to spread positivity for a few days, but it was to show how small moments of kindness come together to create a culture of support, respect and inclusivity at our school. Each day of Kindness Week was like a piece of a puzzle, showing us how little actions add up to something bigger.
Motivational Monday reminded us that words have power. A simple “You’ve got this” or “I believe in you” can be the encouragement someone needs to keep going. We all have the ability to lift each other up, and sometimes, even the smallest words of motivation can make a huge difference.
On Thankful Tuesday, we focused on gratitude. In our busy lives it’s easy to forget to say “Thank you” to the people who support us. Whether it’s a friend, a teacher, or even someone who simply makes our day a little better, appreciation strengthens connections and reminds us of the good in our lives.
Warm Hearted Wednesday was about action. Kindness isn’t just in what we say it’s in what we do. Holding the door open, including someone who feels left out, or simply smiling at someone in the hallway might seem small, but these actions bring warmth even on the coldest days.
On Thoughtful Thursday, we took a step back to reflect on how our words and actions affect those around us. Being thoughtful means choosing kindness, even when it’s not the easiest option. It’s in the moments where we listen and not judge, support instead of criticise and remind others that they are not alone.
Finally, Feel Good Friday wrapped up the week with an important reminder: kindness doesn’t just make others feel good, it makes us feel good too. When we choose kindness, we create a space where positivity and compassion can thrive, not just for a week, but every day. A Message from the Heart Committee:
“As the Ferdies Heart Committee, we believe kindness isn’t just an event, but a habit and a choice we make daily. As Kindness Week comes to an end, we challenge every Ferdie to keep this spirit alive. Because when we all choose kindness, we don’t just change a day, we change a school, a community, and maybe even the world”.
